Unlike any other treatment available today, FDA-approved Portrait®
Plasma Skin Regeneration is the latest advancement in wrinkle improvement
without the downtime experienced in other laser regeneration or
deep chemical peel procedures. Portrait® Plasma Skin Regeneration
gives marked improvement to wrinkles, tone and texture, stimulates
collagen production without ablating the upper layers of the skin.
Portrait® Plasma Skin Regeneration begins with a simple procedure
that takes about 15 minutes to perform. Portrait® PSR works
beneath the skin’s surface, creating the correct conditions
for generating new skin and collagen production. To learn more about

Our state-of-the-art, versatile laser system provides
a variety of safe, effective treatments sometimes called Intense
Pulsed Light (IPL), FotoFacials, or PhotoRejuvenation. This remarkable
laser effectively and safely treats a variety of
undesirable skin conditions on the face and body with little
or no downtime and minimal discomfort.
Treatable Conditions Include:
- Facial redness, broken capillaries
- Rosacea
- Age spots
- Freckles, benign moles
- Sun damage
- Port wine stains
- Pigmented lesions
- Hemangiomas
- Spider Veins
Depending on the severity of the conditions you would like to improve,
a series of three to five treatments staged approximately four weeks
apart are usually recommended. Although you may experience swelling,
redness or bruising, there is little or no subsequent downtime.
For your safety, Board certified facial plastic and reconstructive
surgeon Dr. Peter Schmid administers IPL treatments.
For the treatment of deep wrinkling, severe sun
damage and pigmentation problems, the carbon dioxide (CO2) laser
is extremely effective. Laser skin resurfacing can be used to treat
the entire face or targeted to remove wrinkles around the
mouth or eyes.
The laser works by exfoliating layer by layer the damaged skin exposing
more youthful skin below. This laser produces the most
dramatic results for moderate to severely damaged and aged skin.
CO2 laser skin resurfacing is the optimal method to stimulate
collagen production, resulting in a visible "tightening"
of the skin.
Laser skin resurfacing is a deep treatment that requires a considerable
commitment to post-operative care, but the results can be
remarkable. Before your procedure, you are invited to a
private, complimentary makeup application consultation
with our Aesthetic Care Coordinator. We will teach you how to apply
makeup to conceal redness during your recovery period. Hand picked
by Dr. Schmid for its pure ingredients, our Jane Iredale mineral
makeup is not only beautiful and natural looking for everyday use,
but also exceptional in camouflaging the symptoms of recovery.
As with any cosmetic procedure, recovery times vary with the extent
of treatment, the attention the patient pays to postoperative care
and follow-up, and patient's natural genetic healing abilities.
Approximate recovery time is ten days to two weeks for general healing.
In some cases, redness in the treated areas may persist for up to
six months.
As we age, the forehead and brows descend. Many
people unconsciously compensate for the weight of gravity by elevating
the eyebrows, catalyzing the formation of wrinkles on the forehead.
Squinting and frowning also exacerbate lines and wrinkles in the
forehead and around the eyes.
An affordable, safe and effective
treatment, BOTOX® Cosmetic is an FDA-approved
technique to safely and effectively smooth wrinkles in the forehead,
glabellar and crow's feet areas. It works by weakening the muscles,
preventing further damage and softening the appearance of the overlying
skin.
At the Institute of Aesthetic Plastic & Reconstructive
Surgery, BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments cost less than $12.50
per unit. Because your safety is our first priority, BOTOX®
Cosmetic is always administered by Board certified facial
plastic surgeon Dr. Peter Schmid. The treatment takes only
10 to 20 minutes. There is minimal redness and swelling, and your
activities are not restricted after your treatment. Complications
with BOTOX® Cosmetic are extremely rare.
For many women and men, nasolabial folds (lines
extending from the side of the nose down to the corner of the mouth),
deep creases between the eyebrows, and other types of wrinkles can
be improved with facial fillers.
There are a variety of safe, effective fillers that address deep
wrinkles and folds. The FDA-approved, popular choices include Restylane,
collagen, Advanta, AlloDerm, Fascian and others. Collagen
may be human derived (i.e., Cosmoderm / Cosmoplast)
or bovine derived (i.e., Zyderm / Zyderm II / Zyplast).
Many facial fillers are injectible, and while there may be some
bruising and redness, there is little or no downtime.
During your consultation, you and Dr. Schmid will discuss the benefits
and limitations of each, and help you decide which filler is best.
An active lifestyle doesn’t have to mean there is no time
to look and feel your best. The Thermage ThermaCool TC (Tissue Contraction)
treatment is an FDA-approved non-surgical option for tightening
the skin of the face, jaw line and neck. Because there
is no surgery, there is no downtime. Dr. Schmid
performs the procedure, and he will tailor your treatment to you.
Thermage ThermaCool combines radiofrequency heating with a protective
cooling mechanism. It is intended to cause immediate collagen contraction
followed by gradual collagen tightening or contraction to lift the
skin without wounding the upper layers of the skin. A cryogen spray
simultaneously cools and protects the skin’s surface throughout
the radiofrequency pulse to protect the skin.
Thermage TC treatments take approximately 30-40 minutes for the
forehead and eyes, an hour to an hour and a half for the mid and
lower face, and about 40-50 minutes for the neck. A topical anesthetic
is used to minimize discomfort, sometimes in conjunction with a
nerve block. Usually only one or two treatments spaced about six
months apart provide optimal tightening of the skin.
Exfoliative skin peels have long been considered
a standard in surgeon’s offices. Peels are versatile,
ranging in depth to correspond with the severity of the
condition. Even with the arrival of lasers, some still prefer the
peel to treat superficial skin problems.
Alpha/beta hydroxy acid, glycolic acid, trichloroacetic acid and
phenol peels are some of the more common types of peels available.
Peels range in depth from very light or superficial to medium and
deep peels. Generally speaking, the deeper the peel the more noticeable
the results and the more commitment required for recovery.
Since every patient has unique skin problems, goals and lifestyles,
one type of peel does not fit everyone. Dr. Schmid customizes
each peel to you.
Dr. Schmid hand-picks our medically proven
skin care products and cosmetics lines. Every product varies
in strength and purpose, so your skin care program will be customized
